“Shorelines of the Spirit" focuses on the rich yet often overlooked legacy of Black maritime heroes. The textured elements portray the ocean's depths where Black captains, sailors, oystermen, and whalers made significant contributions beyond narratives of the Atlantic Slave Trade. The flowing raffia fibers symbolizes freedom found through waterways, both as routes to liberation and channels of cultural exchange. Let us celebrate how Black maritime culture has shaped global trade and created beauty through skill and connection to water across generations.
