Home Is the Sole Destination
Whether we lean toward introversion or extroversion, home has a way of becoming our destination. It is our safe haven, the place where we dance freely within our bodies, minds, emotions, and spirits. It is where we invite the people we love, both those connected to us by blood and those we have chosen along the way. It is where we break bread, laugh, cry, celebrate, grieve, meditate, and find solace. In Home Is the Sole Destination, a woman dances freely within the intimacy of her home, accompanied by an old vinyl record that reminds her of her grandfather and a beloved houseplant that calls to mind her grandmother. Her African headwrap features the Gye Nyame, an Adinkra symbol originating with the Akan people of Ghana that represents the supremacy of God. Together, these details become more than objects or adornments. They are vessels of memory, love, ancestry, faith, and belonging.
